After the publication of the Supreme Leader's fatwa stating that polygamy is not recommended, this fatwa was met with criticisms, including the lack of jurisprudential support. The type of problems and the lack of sufficient research on them by jurisprudential and seminary centers caused us to examine and validate the arguments of those who believe in the desirability of polygamy. The present study has been conducted with a descriptive-analytical approach and by referring to library resources in order to refine the opinion of the Supreme Leader and those who believe that it is not recommended, so after examining verse 3 of Surah Al-Nisa, the hadiths of the chapter on marriage and other evidences, the following conclusions were obtained that firstly, verse 3 of Surah Al-Nisa, because of the importance of revelation, the context of the verses and some paragraphs, does not seek to express the desirability of plurality, and secondly, the hadiths of the chapter on marriage, due to the weakness of the chain of narration and implication, has failed to prove the desirability of polygamy, the only positive is the conditional permissibility of polygamy. The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) and the Infallible Imams (a.s.) also face fundamental problems in proving that polygamy is not recommended, so the fatwa of the Supreme Leader that polygamy is not recommended, which is in line with the words of Sheikh Tusi, the late Tabarsi, and Qadi Ibn Baraj, has a strong jurisprudential backing.
